The Power of Respect
I got the most interesting email from a pal in Canada. At least I think that's where he lives. He's a friend made through this website. He was talking about the different way he was treated when he changed jobs. That's all that changed -- just his job. It's quite an eye opener. Read on ...
Web Frustrations
I've been offline for several weeks - working on a new project -- (I'll post on that shortly ) -- but I have received SO many touching responses to the essay I posted below about the recent deaths of two instrumental teachers in my life. Several children of Mr. Bartlett's wrote me such kind emails...and so many of you wrote and mentioned your own special teachers. A number of you said you were going to be sure to let those special educators know NOW just what an impact they made on your lives. And that leads to my web frustration. Read on ...
A Salute To My Teacher (s)
We are all the product of the people with whom we come in contact. This week, I have lost two who were critically important in my life. Louise Eddings and Marcus Bartlett. One who helped set me down the path toward journalism, the other who made sure my journalistic compass was sound. Read on ...
Hannity Tonight
Was on the Sean Hannity show ... first time since he moved into his fancy new studio. Wow -- it's gorgeous and he was terrific as usual. I guested on a panel along with Juan Williams and former McCain Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker. Needless to say topic #1 was the confusion in Washington -- where today the CEOs of the Investment Banks were on the hot seats. Seemed to me much of what was being said by the Congressmen and Senators was more for the purpose of uploading onto their personal websites for the constituents back home than to actually bring light to a very confused situation!
Today, tho was better than yesterday. Remember the President at his press conference said Tuesday would be Secretary Geitner's "day in the sun." It sure seemed cloudy to me as he clearly had NO details to offer on the Administration's 'fix' -- Between what he had to say and what Fed Chairman Bernanke had to say (and he was really raked over the coals) -- it was totally disheartening. No wonder the market dropped nearly 400 points.
Today's CEOs seemed measured, prepared, and for the most part had plausible explanations for the 'excesses' they were asked to answer for. Remember, not ALL of their firms even wanted to take the TARP money -- it was forced on them.
The day ended with the Senate passing a compromise form of the 'stimulus' act -- tho it remains to be seen just how much of a shot in the arm or kick in the butt it will be. For struggling Americans -- and there are many -- the $250 stipends for Social Security recipients and veteran pensioners will be welcome and useful. Those kickbacks (and that IS what they are!) for buying cars and houses fell out of the latest measure -- not welcome news for would be buyers. But the overall price tag is tens of billions less -- We'll see what happens next.
Still missing, as far as I can see: any solution for pricing distressed assets and real transparency in pricing them. I got an email from a pal who sent me a funny rendition of what's going on with our economy. Is it "Socialism" as Hannity says? Well, if you want a chuckle, read on ...
They Like It! Reviews Are In!
That picture is Sarah E. White's from her blog. I feel like Sally Field when she won her Oscar. There are some reviews on About.com about the new yarn line and "she likes it!" "The yarn feels soft and warm to work with and has a nice spring to it. The knit swatch has a huge amount of horizontal stretch and a little vertical stretch."
Is just a part of the review by Sarah E. White on About.com. To see more of her comments and a link, read on ...

Through hustle, hard work—and working mornings—Deborah Norville carved out a career
By Paige Albiniak -- Broadcasting & Cable, 1/12/2009
Even as a teenager, Deborah Norville had the looks and talent to get in any door, but it was her nose-to-the-grindstone work ethic that kept her there. Her years in the news business have been a series of quick successes, with one notorious failure. Wanna see more? Read on ...
